Located at the southern end of the beachside suburb of Cottesloe, this new residence is sited on a long thin lot running east-west between two converging streets. The eastern elevation is modest and reserved in nature, its roof form curved at both the northern and southern sides to reduce its mass in relation to its two single-storey neighbours. In contrast, the western elevation is much more open, featuring extensive glazing to take advantage of the magnificent views out towards the Indian Ocea
This property has its long side boundary providing northern orientation over the public open space, natural dunes and the sea to the west. A condition of the purchase of the land was that the building was to be single-storey to preserve the views of the properties behind - and to have a minimum 20 degree pitched roof. his project is a single-family home located on the beachfront in Halls Head, near Mandurah in Western Australia. The two-storey rammed limestone house was built as a holiday home. The open plan living area has been located on the top floor to maximise the sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. This living area is connected to the sleeping quarters on the ground via a steel-framed, rope-balustraded staircase.
